About local ai

Local AI tools let you run models on your own computer, phone or server instead of sending data to someone else's cloud. People choose local setups for privacy, to work offline, to avoid ongoing usage fees, or because their work involves data that cannot leave their control. Start with your hardware. Compare what each tool needs in memory, graphics card and storage, and which models it can run at a speed you can live with. Look at how easy installation and updates are, whether it offers a simple app or expects comfort with the command line, and whether it can connect to your files and other tools. Check the license of each model you run, since the app and the model often have different terms. Local does not automatically mean private, so check whether the app itself sends any data out.
