How reviews work
One review per member per tool, owners can reply publicly, and negative reviews are never removed for being negative.
Reviews are the most useful thing on a tool's page. They tell the next person what a tool is really like to use. These rules keep them honest.
The basics
- One review per member per tool.
- Use the tool before you review it. Reviews should come from real use, not from a demo video or a launch announcement.
- Owners can reply publicly. A tool's owner can respond to a review on the tool's page. Public replies to reviews are part of the Verified Vendor plan.
Writing a helpful review
- Say what you used the tool for, and for how long.
- Describe what worked and what did not, with specific examples.
- Mention the plan you used, since free and paid tiers often differ.
- Note anything about pricing, limits, support or data terms that surprised you.
- Keep it about the product. Criticism of a company is fine. Personal attacks on its staff are not.
What is not allowed
- Reviewing your own product, or one made by your employer or by someone who pays you.
- Fake reviews, including reviews from extra accounts.
- Paid-for reviews, or reviews written in exchange for discounts, credits, gifts or any other reward.
- Reviews of a competitor written to hurt it.
- Personal information, spam, links to unrelated products, and affiliate or referral links.
Reviews that break these rules are removed, and the accounts involved may be limited or banned.
Negative reviews stay up
A negative review is never removed because it is negative. It is removed only if it breaks the rules above. Makers cannot pay to remove or hide a review, and no paid plan changes a review or a rating.
For makers: replying well
- Thank people for their time, even when the review is critical.
- Correct factual errors calmly and specifically.
- Say what you changed, if anything, because of the feedback.
- Never ask a reviewer to change or remove a review in exchange for anything.
